ACHE of Central PA is a professional association providing healthcare leaders with opportunities for professional collegiality and continuing education. ACHE of Central PA is an independent chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is “the premier association in Central PA for healthcare executives.”
History and Governance
The Central PA Chapter of ACHE was previously named the Healthcare Executive’s Forum of Central PA. The chapter changed it’s name in August 2018 in order to realign with ACHE.org’s core values and to be easily recognized as a local chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
The Young Administrators Group (YAG) began in the Spring of 1980. Ray Rosen, of York Hospital, and Alan Green, of Harrisburg Hospital, were the two people who worked with ACHE (then ACHA – American College of Hospital Administrators) to get YAG “off the ground”. The first meeting was held at the Holiday Inn on the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg. The Hospital Council of Central PA was a non-monetary sponsor of that first meeting, and assisted Ray and Alan in compiling a membership listing of hospitals, members’ names, and addresses.
In the mid-1980’s, about the same time as ACHA changed its name to ACHE, YAG changed its name to Healthcare Executives Group. It was HEF until another name change in 1990.
The original geographical coverage area of the organization was from Lancaster County on the Southeast, to Berwick on the Northeast, to Wellsboro on the North, to State College on the Northwest and Chambersburg on the Southwest. In 1990 the name was changed to Healthcare Executives Forum of Central PA. In 2002 – 2003, when application was made for a formal charter with ACHE, the sphere of influence of HEF of Central Pennsylvania was modified to include the following counties: Adams, Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Centre, Clearfield, Cumberland, Dauphin, Fayette, Franklin, Fulton, Indiana, Lancaster, Lebanon, Mifflin, Schuylkill, Somerset, Westmoreland, and York.
Now, to remain relevant with the chapter name the chapter aligned with ACHE rebranding to ACHE of Central PA. Please join us for engaging networking and top notch educational information.
ACHE of Central Pennsylvania has only slightly changed its’ focus from the days of YAG. Membership includes not only young administrators but now the more “seasoned” veterans, as well. This mix performs a vital function in ensuring the continued vitality of HEF as a progressive and knowledgeable organization, open to all administrators in healthcare related organizations.
